*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
[Adapted from John Calvin’s Forms of Prayer for the Church]
C: O Lord, You are our Father, we are nothing but earth and clay. You are our Creator, we are the workmanship of Your hands. You are our Redeemer, we are the people redeemed by You. Our sins kindle Your wrath, but remember we are called by Your name, and bear Your banner. Do not chastise us in Your fury, but in Your mercy chasten us leniently. Preserve, we ask, the work which Your grace has begun in us, that the whole world may acknowledge You to be our God and Savior. We abandon all other hope, and flee to the precious covenant by which our Lord Jesus Christ, through His own body and blood, has reconciled us to You. Look, therefore, not on us, but on the face of Christ. May Your face shine upon us, as You guide and govern us by Your Word and Spirit. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is He is Able. A Common metaphor for the experiences of life is the ocean. That is the case in literature around the world and down through the ages. The Bible makes use of this metaphor as well. The question at hand is how does one stand in the midst of the storms of life when the deck is more like a bucking bronco than a stable floor? Paul has painted a pretty bleak picture of the future for the Ephesian elders. Lots of storms! How will they stand on the slippery, pitching deck of life? Paul’s confidence is not in their sea-legs, but in the One who is the Master of the Seas, Jesus.
CONGRATULATIONS to Chris Tawney on his installation this morning as Pastor for Worship & Technology at Leidy’s Church. We look forward to God’s work in the life of Chris as he ministers among us. May the Lord Jesus bless and use him abundantly.
