*  CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
C: Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven. But we live in a fallen world, a world in rebellion against You, a world that questions Your Word, and challenges its authority. We confess the world has influenced us. We have doubted Your Word; we have ignored Your Word; we have been flippant with Your Word; we have disobeyed Your Word; we have twisted Your Word; we have not honored Your Word. This is sin and we confess it as such, asking You to forgive us. We turn to Your Word of promise, that in Jesus’ shed blood our sins are atoned for. We lay our sins on Jesus, that He may bear them away, freeing us from their curse. Lord Jesus, we would be Your disciples, we would continue in Your Word. Thank You for Your faithfulness to all generations. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is The Forever Foundation. The University of Southern California’s Law School has a quotation from the gospel of John inscribed above the pillars of its main building. It’s part of our gospel text this Lord’s Day. The text is this: “You will know the truth and truth will make you free.” That’s a great text. It is, however, only a partial text. Without the rest of the text it’s possible to misuse and misunderstand the text quoted. Texts that are inscribed in such high, distinguished settings are meant to be foundational for the institution. We’ll consider the rest of the text this Lord’s Day.
