      A MOMENT of SILENT MEDITATION on the WORD of GOD

      THE SERMON:  “Judging”

*    CONFESSION OF SIN - first in silence and then in unison

      C: Almighty God, Ruler of heaven and earth, we bow our hearts and minds before You. We have been arrogant and foolish. Arrogant, in that we imagined our notions of right and wrong could displace what You have established. We are ever-prone to magnify our opinions, while setting aside Your clear Word. Foolish, in that we thought You did not notice or care, that we lived in such open rebellion. Being foolish, we dismissed all thoughts of judgment – that Day when we will stand before Your throne and render an account of our lives. We confess all this as sin, and seek forgiveness through the Lamb of Calvary, who bore the wrath of God for the sins of His people. Keep us in Your care, Lord Jesus. Impart Your grace to us, so that we may turn from sin, do what You command, and praise You with our thankful and obedient lives. Amen.

*     A HYMN: #107  Amazing Grace ( 7 vss. on insert)

*    HEIDELBERG CATECHISM: Questions 83 & 85

      Question 83: What is the office of the keys?

      Answer: The preaching of the holy gospel and Christian discipline. By these two means the kingdom of heaven is opened to believers and shut against unbelievers.

      Question 85: How is the kingdom of heaven shut and opened by Christian discipline?

      Answer: In this way: Christ commanded that those who bear the Christian name in an unchristian way, either in doctrine or in life, should be given brotherly admonition. If they do not give up their errors or evil ways, notification is given to the church, or to those ordained for this by the church. Then, if they do not change after this warning, they are forbidden to partake of the holy sacraments, and are thus excluded from the communion of the church, and by God Himself from the kingdom of Christ. However, if they promise and show real amendment, they are received again as members of Christ and of the church.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Judging. If ever there has been a misconstrued subject among Christians it is the matter of judging. A regular accusation leveled against Christians is that they’re judgmental. There is no need to attach a negative adjective to the term, since the term itself is sufficiently negative to put folk off. In light of that reality, we have an interesting set of Bible texts to consider on this Lord’s Day. Each has to do with judging. Jesus talks about it; Paul writes about; and Moses gives instructions about it. And each says it is something that God’s people must do—faithfully.

LENT BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY with the observance of Ash Wednesday. Along with the singing of hymns, offering of prayers, preaching, and choir anthem, the Lord’s Supper will be included as part of the worship. Our service of worship will begin at 7:30 p.m. You are invited to be a participant in this year’s Ash Wednesday service of worship.

LOVE CRADLE IS BRINGING UKRAINIAN orphans to the Souderton area and we are seeking Christian families to host these children for one month (June 29th to July 28th). Our web address for more information is www.rainbowofhope.org or www.lovecradleint.org e-mail rainbowofhope@rainbowofhope.org.

TWO WAYS TO LIVE is a seven week course helping folk be motivated and able to share their faith in a relaxed conversional mode. It includes DVD presentations, class discussion, and some homework. Pastor Myers will lead the course and would be delighted to have you among the participants. Class begins on Thursday, March 8th. Please call the church office to register for this class.

JONAH’S COMING TO SIGHT & SOUND. The Sight and Sound Theater in LancasterCounty is doing a new production this year. It is Jonah. A block of tickets has been reserved for Leidy’s Church folk and their friends on September 22nd, for the 7:30 pm presentation. We need to know who wants tickets. The cost is as follows: $61 adults, $29 teens, and $19 under 13. Please call Ron Moyer @ 610-287-5781 to reserve your tickets. Do so sooner rather than later, as the theater cannot assign the actually seats until they are sold.

THE TYSON FAMILY would like to thank everyone in the congregation for their prayers, cards, support, and help since the death of Rachel's father. The comfort of friends makes our trials easier to bear.

Dear Representative _____________________:

            Just a quick note to voice my hearty approval for H.R.535, the now-controversial legislation denominating 2012 as the Year of the Bible in Pennsylvania. Despite the protestations of some, the “Whereas” and “Resolved” points are well-stated and documentably accurate.

            The Bible, unlike any other document or social force, shaped our legal foundations, inculcated simple (but elsewhere unknown) truths such as we are endowed by God with certain and unalienable rights, and that justice should be sought for all. Our first settlers did come because of religious convictions, and the first book printed in America was the Bay Psalm Book in 1640. A little over 20 years later the first translation of the Bible into a Native American tongue took place and was printed by John Eliot as the Algonquin Indian Language Bible.

            Some suggest the Enlightenment was more seminal to America than the Bible. One need only consider the different outcomes of the American Revolution and the French Revolution to see how erroneous that notion is. While not all our leaders were professing or believing Christians, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson being the most renown examples, the vast majority were Christians, profoundly so. John Jay, our first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was one of the founders of the American Bible Society.

            The value of applying biblical principles may be traced through the annals of our newspapers. It’s as we have paid less heed to the Bible that our headlines and news stories have become more violent and lascivious. We are facing great and grave dangers in our time. The Bible has clear, distinct, applicable truths which will help individuals, families, and our entire culture if we heed them.

            I heartily concur with the “Resolve” when it states that all of us need to recognize “the formative influence of the Bible” both in PA and in the US. Likewise, I concur that we do have a desperate “national need to study and apply the teachings of the holy scriptures.”

            Thank you for voting for this resolution. May you and your colleagues, even as me and my household, take this to heart and seek to apply all the Bible to all areas of our lives.

                                                Very truly yours,

                                                Your name

                                                Your street address

                                                Your mailing address

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear,

The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come;

’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,

And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,

His word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,

And mortal life shall cease,

I shall possess, within the veil,

A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,

The sun forbear to shine;

But God, who called me here below,

Will be forever mine.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise,

Than when we first begun.

Forever

Give thanks to the Lord

Our God and King,

His love endures forever.

For He is good, He is above all things,

His love endures forever,

Sing praise, sing praise,

With a mighty hand and outstretched arm,

His love endures forever.

For the life that's been reborn,

His love endures forever

Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

Forever God is faithful,

Forever God is strong.

Forever God is with us, forever, forever.

From the rising to the setting sun,

His love endures forever.

By the grace of God we will carry on,

His love endures forever,

Sing praise, sing praise,

Sing praise, sing praise.

His love endures forever,

His love endures forever

His love endures forever, forever.

What the Lord Has Done In Me

Let the weak say, "I am strong."

Let the poor say, "I am rich."

Let the blind say, "I can see;

It's what the Lord has done in me." (repeat)

Chorus:

Hosanna, hosanna to the Lamb that was slain.

Hosanna, hosanna, Jesus died and rose again.

Into the river I will wade.

There my sins are washed away.

From the heavens mercy streams

Of the Saviour's love for me.

I will rise from waters deep

Into the saving arms of God.

I will sing salvation songs;

Jesus Christ has set me free.

Purify My Heart

Purify my heart, let me be as gold and precious silver.

Purify my heart, let me be as gold, pure gold.

Refiner's fire, my heart's one desire,

Is to be holy, set apart for You, Lord.

I choose to be holy, set apart for You, my Master,

Ready to do Your will.

Purify my heart, cleanse me from within,

And make me holy.

Purify my heart, cleanse me from my sin,

Deep within.

Only By Grace

Only by grace can we enter,

Only by grace can we stand.

Not by our human endeavor

But by the blood of the Lamb

Into Your presence You call us,

You call us to come.

Into Your presence You draw us,

And now by Your grace we come,

Now by Your grace we come.

Lord if You mark our transgressions,

Who would stand?

Thanks to Your grace we are cleansed

By the blood of the Lamb.

Lord if You mark our transgressions,

Who would stand?

Thanks to Your grace we are cleansed

By the blood of the Lamb.

Now by Your grace we come,

Now by Your grace we come,

Now by Your grace we come.

Lead Me, Lord

Lead me, Lord, I will follow,

Lead me, Lord, I will go.

You have called me, I will answer,

Lead me, Lord, I will go.
