*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
[Taken and adapted from The Valley of Vision edited by Arthur Bennett]
C: O changeless God, under the conviction of the Spirit, I learn that the more I do, the worse I am; the more I know, the less I know; the more holiness I have, the more sinful I am; the more I love, the more there is to love. O wretched man that I am! Grant that I may not be an evangelical hypocrite, who sins more safely because grace abounds, who tells his lusts that Christ’s blood cleanses them. O Lord, I have a wild heart. How little I love Your truth and ways! I neglect prayer. My mind is a bucket without a bottom, with no spiritual understanding. I forget so easily the lessons learned. Your truths seep away. Give me a broken heart, one that yet carries home the water of grace. O God, let me rest in You, let me grow in You. Amen

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is No Offense Meant. God did great things through the ministry of the Apostle Paul. Of most significance was the expansion of the apostolic church’s boundaries to include non-Jewish people. Because the Gospel is inherently Jewish, this was difficult for Jewish people to accept. As we’ve made our way through Acts we’ve seen time and again hostile actions taken against Paul by Jewish leaders and people. When he gets to Jerusalem the leaders of the church want him to take action to show he is not trying to subvert Jewish life. Sometimes when no offense is meant, offense is taken.

A PATTERN OF PRAYER is being established. During the recent prayer vigil many commented on the desirability of more regular times for intercession. Consequently, the first Saturday of each month – beginning Sept. 3rd, that’s this Saturday! – intentional intercession will take place from 8 am until noon in a designated prayer room. Individuals may come to pray for as long or as short a time as one’s schedule permits. For more information or to offer feedback, please see Patricia Martindell.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR LAST YEAR’S KID’S KLUB KIDS!  The song we would like our young people to share with the community at our Dedication Service will need to be one we learned last year, since the service is before Kid’s Klub starts this year!  We have scheduled two practices for review: Wednesday, September 7th & September 14th from 5:30-6:00 (which coincidentally is the new time for choir in the Fall!) Contact Mrs. Frueh if you have any questions or concerns!
INVITATIONS AND ADVERTISING POSTERS for the church dedication service and open house are now available at the welcome desk. We would encourage everyone to hand out invitations to their neighbors, family & friends and, if you have a business or know of a business that would be willing to display a poster, get those out into the community as well. If you would like to distribute the invitations electronically, email a request for the file to office@leidyschurch.org.
