     THE SERMON: “It’s Blasphemy
*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
     C: Lord Jesus, You made the good confession before Pontius Pilate, and also before the high priest and his company. You fought the good fight of faith, in the presence of many witnesses. We confess we have not always done so. We have been intimidated by the forces of unbelief. We’ve kept silent when we should have spoken. Or, we’ve responded with anger, when we should have been forgiving. We have desired the approval of man, more than the approval of God. Forgive us Lord Jesus, and send the Holy Spirit to us afresh. May we walk and speak with a humility that’s bold for You. O Lord, we love You. Help us love You more. Amen.
*   THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON: #357 O for a Heart to Praise My God
     The Urban Catechism
     Question 48: How does the unbelieving community respond to the believing community?
     Answer: There is hostility towards believers, expressed in persecution and temptation, but by God’s common grace, unbelievers may also be restrained and at times show love to believers.
     Question 49: How are believers to withstand hostility from unbelievers?
     Answer: By standing firm with other believers, maintaining a certain amount of separation from unbelievers, meditating on God’s word, and praying.
     Question 50: How are believers to respond to unbelievers?
     Answer: By holding out the gospel to them in word and deed.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is It’s Blasphemy. The truth of God runs counter to all the prevailing orthodoxies based on fallen human wisdom. One could say that the truth of God turns the world upside down. The powers that be do not take being turned upside down lying down! Sometimes they pout, as we’ll see with King Ahab. Sometimes they argue with vehemence, as we’ll see with the Synagogue of the Freedman. The Jewish chief priests are no different. In each instance, fallen human wisdom charges that God’s truth is blasphemous. In each instance, nefarious steps are taken to prove such is the case.
WHAT’S THE URBAN CATECHISM? Glad you asked! It’s a new catechism written by Duncan Forbes, pastor of New Life Church in London, UK. It’s meant to be very basic, written in everyday language, and understandable to someone who has never read the Bible or heard of Christianity.
THE STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL takes place on Saturday, June 13th. Much help is needed to make the Festival a success. Forms are in your bulletin. Be sure to check as many volunteer positions you can fill.
CONTRACTOR IN EAST ROCKHILL TOWNSHIP is looking for an office manager to work a flexible 25 +/- hour work week with qualities which include proficiency in computer software programs and strong communication skills as well as a desire to work so as to glorify the Lord. A job description is posted on the wall outside the Conference Room. If interested, please call Kim at 267-784-4887.
THE SUMMER SPECIAL MUSIC schedule is posted in the narthex. This year each participant is required to meet with a member of the audio-visual team the week before they sing. You will be given the name of the AV person who is on duty for that week so that you can contact him. This is already being done by the Chancel Choir and both Praise Teams in preparation for our move to the new building where the sound system will be more complex. We hope you will share your God-given talents with us this summer.
THE BUILDING PROJECT is superintended by a fellow named Neal Harvey. Pray for him as he coordinates all that takes place over there. He’s fun to talk to because he’s always ready to tell you about all the work that’s taking place. This week a crew of six has been crawling through the sanctuary trusses hammering in braces. When the longer trusses are put in next week it will require a week or so to get them properly braced. More concrete was poured this week, specifically, the floor for the narthex and the entryway into the gym. All the earth work being done on the lower part of the parking lot is part of a long, long retaining wall to keep the parking lot out of the creek.
QUESTIONS FROM THE QUESTIONS of The Urban Catechism. Are there ways you have been either tempted or persecuted by non-believers? Are there ways God has used non-believers to bless you? Where are you standing right now? Do you have both feet in the believing camp? Or, do you have one foot in each camp? Are you holding out the gospel to unbelievers by word and deed? Are there people you can pray for? How can you help your deeds match up with the gospel?

Forth in Thy Name, O Lord
by Charles Wesley [tune = Duke Street]
Forth in Thy name, O Lord, I go,
My daily labor to pursue;
Thee, only Thee, resolved to know
In all I think or speak or do.
The task Thy wisdom hath assigned,
O let me cheerfully fulfill;
In all my works Thy presence find,
And prove Thy good and perfect will.
Preserve me from my calling’s snare,
And hide my simple heart above,
Above the thorns of choking care,
The gilded baits of worldly love.
Thee may I set at my right hand,
Whose eyes mine inmost substance see,
And labor on at Thy command,
And offer all my works to Thee.
Give me to bear Thy easy yoke,
And every moment watch and pray,
And still to things eternal look,
And hasten to Thy glorious day.
For Thee delightfully employ
Whate’er Thy bounteous grace hath giv’n;
And run my course with even joy,
And closely walk with Thee to Heav’n.
