      THE SERMON: “Perplexing Clarity”
*    CONFESSION OF SIN – first in silence and then in unison
[adapted from portions of Ps. 119:97-104]
C: Lord, we love Your law. Your commandments make us wiser than our enemies; Your testimonies give insights beyond anything given by human teachers. By heeding Your precepts, we are wise beyond our years. But Lord Jesus, like Peter we have difficulty understanding Your Word. Our hearts and minds are locked into patterns of thinking, and ways of living, out of line with Your Word. Assailed by the aggressive arguments of unbelievers, challenged by wicked assertions calling into question the very foundations of life, we waver. We are prone to be foolish and slow to believe all Your Word declares. Forgive us, Lord Jesus. Renew us day by day by the Holy Spirit. May we see Your truth and glory more clearly, and reject every false way. Pour out Your love upon us. Amen.
*   A HYMN: #18 The Love of God

*   THE CLOSING HYMN: #606 He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought
*   SILENT MEDITATION – Please remain in your pews in a worshipful attitude

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Perplexing Clarity. Peter is in a quandary. He sees a vision from God, three times in a row! God speaks clearly about the vision and its meaning. Yet Peter finds himself perplexed about its application. This is not the first time – nor will it be the last – when Peter clearly hears from God and yet does not perceive all that is meant. As far as he can tell, it seems as though God is changing the rules. What previously had been forbidden by God must now be done at the command of God. Peter is clearly perplexed. Perhaps in his perplexity we can find some clarity in our understanding of God.

LOST SHEEP PRAYER GROUP meets the second Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, and second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Cindy Filson.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE a little extra cash for Christmas? Are you handy in the kitchen or with a glue gun, or both??? Can you make thing-a-ma-jigs out of what-cha-ma-call-its? Then our Craft Show is for you. Email Donna Frueh TODAY at dsfrueh@comcast.net. Remember, nothing is too bizarre for our bazaar!
IT’S APPLESAUCE MAKING TIME! If you can assist with the making of the applesauce for the church, it happens on Saturday, October 24th at 9 a.m. Contact the church office if you can help. Thank you.
WE DO GIVE THANKS for our three wonderful pastors! Even though our pastors will be ‘on the run’ to their respective Sunday School classes, we hope they will be able to grab a few tasty treats that have been provided by the Care Committee. Please join them (maybe a hug or two before they disappear) and fellow members for light breakfast bites in the Fellowship Hall during the Sunday school hour next Sunday October 18. Also, if you haven’t had a chance to express your thanks during the month of October, please feel free to drop off a note or card in their baskets while you enjoy the breakfast items.
ALL ACTORS for Judgment House should report to the Fellowship Hall for practice on Sundays at 7:30 pm. Make sure you have handed in a signed commitment form.
STILL NEEDED FOR JUDGEMENT HOUSE: youth grades 7-12 for various small roles; adults who love children to look after those too young to tour Judgment and Hell scenes; security escorts; set construction workers. New this year: security escorts are invited to walk through the drama during practice next Sunday, October 18th at 7:30 pm. Contact Pastor Andrew or Rachel Tyson to volunteer.
A CELEBRATION BANQUET for the entire congregation is being planned for Saturday evening, November 7th. Sponsored by the Consistory with major help from the Care Committee, it will be an evening to return thanks to God for all the ways He’s worked in and through the “new addition” we added in 1990. Looking forward to good food, good memories, good sharing, and good celebration of God’s goodness. Plan to be present. Please fill out the form in the bulletin and place in the box provided on the narthex desk.
WE WANT TO THANK Leidy’s congregation for all the prayers, cards and phone calls before my back surgery as well as now during my recovery period. We have been blessed with a wonderful support system here at Leidy’s Church.
In Christian Love,
     Diane & Le Roy
IF YOU’RE NOT CRAFTY but still would like to help with the Craft Show and Sale on Saturday, November 21st, Wendy Radcliff is looking for a partner to work with her in concessions or take over if necessary. Contact Wendy directly by email (radcliff6@verizon.net) or let one of the ladies in the church office know of your interest. Our annual craft show has served great food over the years, so this is an important part of the day to our guests and vendors.
THE WOMEN’S MINISTRY team invites ladies of all ages to meet for a time of prayer on Tuesday evening at 7:00 in Room 18 (also known as the Youth Room) for a time of prayer. Our desire is to seek God and His will for our lives as well as for our households, our families, and our church family. If you are unable to attend, please share your prayer request on the form that was placed in your mailbox and place it in the Prayer Request box located in the narthex coat closet.
THE BUILDING PROJECT is changing in appearance on an almost daily basis! A big change in appearance is scheduled to happen tomorrow. The final part of the steeple arrived this past week. That would be the pointy part! If all goes as planned, the big crane will be here tomorrow and it will be installed. As one might imagine, putting this piece in place is not without its hazards, so continue to pray for the safety and protection of the workers. With all the roofing in place, the inside work can continue regardless of weather conditions. If you want to see some pictures of the project progressing, go to the Leidy’s Church website (www.leidyschurch.org) and scroll to the bottom of the home page. Click on building project, then sit back and watch as a series of photos unfolds across your screen.
INQUIRERS CLASS BEGINS on November 1st. This is a class for those interested in becoming members of Leidy’s Church. It will meet each week during November in the Conference Room during the Sunday School hour. If you or someone you know would like to be part of this class please contact the church office or Pastor Niederhaus.
WANT TO HELP WITH Judgement House without acting? Consider donating food for the cast! There is a sign-up sheet on the wall in the narthex for you to tear off a slip to bring the items we need. Please bring the donated items to the kitchen by October 18th and mark it “JH”. Thank you.
A SIGN-UP SHEET for the month of October to provide meals for the Lafty family is on the wall in the narthex. This family continues to need our support for the time being. They live at 46 E. Grandview Avenue in Sellersville. If you cannot deliver the meal, bring it to the church.
THANK YOU to everyone for the prayers, meals, gifts, cards and well wishes.  We are truly blessed by our church family and could not be getting through Brian’s illness without all of them.  He is currently in the spine program at Moss Rehab in Elkins Park where he will be receiving intensive inpatient therapy with the goal of walking.
                                              Love, the Laftys
LOOKING FOR PHOTOGRAPHS from events that have been held in the Fellowship Hall over the last 25 years. Bring your photos to the office. Please make sure they are marked. All photographs will be returned to you.
THE ZION CHORAL SOCIETY concerts begin next Sunday. The first one will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Bechtelsville beginning at 3:00.
HAVE YOU MADE A RESERVATION to tour Judgement House? The dates are October 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and November 1st between the hours of 6 to 9 pm. Holy is the Lord
We stand and lift up our hands
For the joy of the Lord is our strength
We bow down and worship Him now
How great how awesome is He
And together we sing
Ev’ryone sing
Holy is the Lord God Almighty
The earth is filled with His glory
Holy is the Lord God Almighty
The earth is filled with His glory
The earth is filled with His glory
It’s rising up all around
It’s the anthem of the Lord’s renown
It’s rising up all around
It’s the anthem of the Lord’s renown
Jesus Thank You
The myst’ry of the cross I cannot comprehend
The agonies of Calvary
You the perfect Holy One crushed Your Son
Who drank the bitter cup reserved for me
Your blood has washed away my sin
Jesus thank You
The Father’s wrath completely satisfied
Jesus thank You
Once Your enemy now seated at Your table
Jesus thank You
By Your perfect sacrifice I’ve been brought near
Your enemy You’ve made Your friend
Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace
Your mercy and Your kindness know no end
Lover of my soul I want to live for You
How Great is Our God
The splendor of the King clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
And trembles at His voice
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God
Age to age He stands, and time is in His hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End
The Godhead three in one. Father, Spirit, Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
Name above all names worthy of all praise
My heart will sing, how great is our God
How Great Thou Art Chorus
Then sings my soul
My Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
