C: Gracious God, You are perfect in all Your ways, and Your purposes shall be established. Forgive us our shifting ways, our eagerness to serve You one day, and our coldness to You the next day. We confess being more determined that You do our will, than we seek to do Your will with perseverance. Forgive us, we ask, through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus. Holy Spirit, we ask You to open our hearts, teach our minds, and mold our wills, so that we perceive, we understand, and we do the will of God–and do it with joy. Transform us, we ask, by the renewing of our minds, so that we may prove to be doers of Your Word, those who delight to do Your will. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is The Promised Hope. Jesus told His followers they would be persecuted and brought before kings and governors for His name’s sake. They were not to be upset by such events, but to recognize such times as opportunities to share their testimony. That’s exactly the situation with Paul as he is brought before King Agrippa and Governor Festus. So, he tells them how he got to be where he is. He says it is because of his belief in the promises made to the people of God. We’ll hear Mary reflecting on those same magnificent promises made to Abraham and the other patriarchs of old.
THE THIRD CANDLE on the Advent Wreath is the candle of Joy. As the candle is lit, reflect upon the truth that we have no greater joy than the knowledge that Jesus did come once, He reigns now, and He will come again. As Christians we remember that “the joy of the Lord is our strength.”
