A MOMENT of SILENT MEDITATION on the WORD of GOD
THE SERMON: “Who is God?”
*CONFESSION OF SIN – first in silence and then in unison
[first used March 24, 1996]
C: Holy and Awesome God, we bow our hearts and heads before You. All the universe exists only by Your good pleasure. You are the Sovereign, the Ruler, of all creation. We confess our sin to You. Foolishly we listened to other voices, even as they denied Your rule. They attributed sovereignty to Fate, to Evolution, to Blind Chance, to the order of stars, and even to human willpower. Cleanse us thoroughly from our iniquity, and cause us to know You more fully. Graciously grant us to walk in a deeper humility, as we see more clearly who You are: the one true God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – who reigns and rules, now and forevermore! Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Who is God? Our sermon title proposes an essential question. Most folk think they know the answer to that question, but there are times when such proves not to be the case. Nebuchadnezzar provides a classic example of a fellow who knows the answer to who is God, but still gets it wrong! Lip service will not suffice. In our day, just as in times past, there are plenty of folk who will not give even lip service to the notion that such a being as God exists. The example of Herod points to the ultimate end of those who answer this essential question in the wrong way.
THE THIRD CANDLE on the Advent Wreath is the candle of Joy. As the candle is lit, reflect upon the truth that we have no greater joy than the knowledge that Jesus did come once,He reigns now, and He will come again. As Christians we remember that “the joy of the Lord is our strength.”

THE BUILDING PROJECT is generating lots of interest around our community. It is apparent that construction is in the finishing stages. Everyone wants to know when it will be finished. The answer: we don’t know! The Lord willing, before the end of January we will have received the keys. But nothing is guaranteed. The heating system is up and working now. That means regardless how cold it gets outside, the workers inside will be able to continue their efforts. Where the most work needs to be done is the sanctuary, though the dry walling is almost complete, as is construction of the chancel area. In the kitchen, the cabinets are on hand and ready to be installed. Please pray that God will continue to keep the workers safe and prosper their labors on our behalf. Also pray for all the discussion, planning, and decision-making that is happening within our church body. Praise God for His faithfulness!
CAROLING HAPPENS TODAY! We will gather at the church at 1:45 for a 2 p.m. departure time. If you’ve not registered, use a registration form from the narthex desk, fill it out, then place it on the office desk. This will alert the coordinators of your intentions. Come on out and join the singing.
NEXT SUNDAY new members will be received into the fellowship of Leidy’s Church. If you would like to join Leidy’s Church, please contact Pastor Niederhaus or the church office by Tuesday.
HELP IS NEEDED on Christmas Eve in the church kitchen for an hour or so beginning at 2 p.m. to fill the luminary bags with sand and place them around the property. If you can help out, it would be very much appreciated! Call or e-mail the church office to indicate your intention to help out.
THE TREASURER’S BOOKS will close at noon on Thursday, December 31st. Please ensure that all monetary contributions are in the church office by that time.
THE FLOWER CHART for 2016 is posted on the wall in the narthex for those who would like to sponsor flowers for our sanctuary. The chart will be posted until the end of December.
GOT SOME LONELY DOLLARS? We know where they can find some good companionship. The Doubling Your Dollars program has already matched up 51,329 lonely dollars with cheerful companions. There’s a long waiting list of eager dollars wanting to match up with lonely dollars. Each dollar given to the Building Fund during December will get a cheerful, friendly, companionable matching dollar to keep it company. Your dollars will appreciate your matchmaking efforts!
“WE ARE BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE by the many kindnesses received from members of Leidy’s Church following the recent death of John’s mom. The many cards, encouraging words, helpful counsel, and kindly actions sent our way were a vivid expression of the love shared within the body of Christ. Thank you.” John and Pat Niederhaus & family.
MARCH FOR LIFE 2016 takes place on Friday, January 22nd. Leidy’s Church will have a Perkiomen coach taking folk down. Cost is $12 per person. The bus will leave the Leidy’s Church parking lot at 6 a.m. and usually returns between 8:30 and 9 in the evening. A sign-up sheet is posted in the narthex. Youth under 18 years of age must have a responsible adult assigned with them.
PRAYER WARRIORS: Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) provides a Prayer Calendar which highlights prayer needs of the organization. They are available on the desk in the narthex.
