               [first used in December 1994]
C: Almighty God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – we come to confess our sin to You. Though you have sent Your light into the world, too often we have chosen to walk in darkness. We have listened to worldly-wise men, while ignoring the wisdom of Your Word. Our actions have followed the pattern of our culture, not the teaching of Your Law. Our praises follow many human heroes, but too often we forget to praise You, our Savior. Forgive us our sinful and wayward ways we ask, in the name of Him whose birth we celebrate this week. May Jesus’ blood cleanse us, may the Holy Spirit empower and teach us, and may we live our lives to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Set Apart and Sent. Both Anna, an elderly widow in Jerusalem when Jesus was born, and the church at Antioch wherein Barnabas and Paul were leaders, exercised the discipline of fasting. Each is concerned with the subject of redemption. Through the discipline of fasting they get some answers from God about the redemption that was so much on their hearts. Not surprisingly, each had their eyes focused on the Lord Jesus, Anna at the time of His birth, the Antioch Christians at His rule as the ascended Messiah. Daniel’s rock cut without hands is about that redemption.
THE FOURTH CANDLE on the Advent Wreath is the candle of Love. The birth of Jesus is God’s love reaching out to us. It is His love that calls us to faith in Christ. As we remain in His love, our lives will bear fruit for His glory.

THE BUILDING PROJECT has just about finished all the outside-of-the-building trim work. The sidewalk that leads from the parking lot to the entrance of the Christian Ed level (not gym level) near Cherry Lane was poured this week. All the shades for windows in the sanctuary are now installed. Dry wall work is being completed in the sacristy, which when finished will mean all the sanctuary dry walling is done. The steel stud crew is finished and on their way to another site. During this week the entryways into the sanctuary were completed. Cabinets and woodwork for the kitchen and administrative area are on-site and beginning to be installed. The job-site supervisor estimates that 90% of the ceiling tile is in place, including the light fixtures. There are still important decisions and issues in the offing, so much prayer is requested. Praise God for His mercy and grace in this undertaking!
DOUBLING YOUR DOLLARS has two Sundays left [today and next Sunday] to receive gifts towards the challenge goal of $200,000. Since the beginning of November contributions to the Building Fund amount to $80,499.49. Praise be to God! Yet, there remains a considerable amount to be matched, so consider what you might like to do to help us reach the $200,000 goal.
CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew Edmonds! On Friday Pastor Andrew graduated from the Lancaster/Capital Seminary. He received the Master of Divinity degree – and a great sense of relief!
