A MOMENT of SILENT MEDITATION on the WORD of GOD
THE SERMON: “A Time to Kill”
*    CONFESSION OF SIN – first in silence and then in unison
[adapted from portions of Psalm 40]
C: “Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts towards us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” You are my help and my deliverer. Yet the enemy of my soul threatens me. He roars in the circumstances of my life, and I fear. My soul shrinks, and my heart faints. The accuser of my soul points to my sin and failings, and I fall back in shame and confusion and disarray. Lord Jesus, forgive my unbelief, for I am prone to look to my own goodness, or my own strength, or my own wisdom. When I do so, then I see how poor and needy I am. Lord Jesus, You are my help and my deliverer, You are my all in all. I look to You. Amen.

*   THE CLOSING HYMN: #56 God Will Take Care of You
** THE COMMISSION and the BENEDICTION
*   THE THREEFOLD AMEN
*   SILENT MEDITATION – Please remain in your pews in a worshipful attitude until the Pastor leaves
* ORGAN POSTLUDE

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is A Time to Kill. Why does one person get martyred and another person goes unscathed? Look at Stephen: he presented a powerful defense, was a man “full of grace and power,” was exemplary in his life, yet he gets stoned to death by an irate mob of religious folk. Stephen not only lived well, he died well! Some of the same folk who stoned Stephen had sought to stone Jesus a few years earlier, but were not able to do so. Why? An incident in the midst of Jeremiah’s long prophetic ministry may give some insight on the question of why some are martyred and others are not.
THE SACRAMENT OF Holy Communion will be shared at both services this morning. We invite all members of the church of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament. Please fill out a communion card and place it in the offering plate.

THE BUILDING PROJECT did have an injury recently. A worker accidently shot a nail into his leg with a pneumatic nailer. Praise God the nail hit no artery or bone or other significant element. He was back at work in two days! This week more drain pipes were put in place where the athletic fields will be, as well as near the lower entryway. Most of the insulation is in place throughout the administrative wing. During this next week it is hoped that shingles finally will appear on the sanctuary roof, but seeing is believing in this instance! It will still be a few weeks until the rest of the steeple is in place. Did you know the new building is oriented on the true directions of the compass? You can determine east and west, north and south, from the four sides of the building.
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS QCR? That’s Pastor Niederhaus’ subject matter in Issues and Answers today. It’s just shorthand for Questions? Comments? Rebuttals? He’ll have a few remarks to make about contemporary events and then invite your questions, comments, and rebuttals! If you’re not part of another adult Sunday School class, come on into the Fellowship Hall and join him.
HOLY SEXUALITY CONFERENCE featuring Christopher Juan takes place on Saturday, August 8th at Franconia Mennonite Church. It begins at 2 p.m. and will conclude at 5:45. This is a highly recommended conference. Chris Juan is a former agnostic, former drug dealer, former exuberant homosexual, as well as convicted felon, and current professor of Bible at Moody Bible Institute. The conference is free, but a freewill offering will be received. Included in the conference are Chris Juan’s powerful testimony, a consideration of biblical teaching on homosexuality, how Christians can interact with others about this topic, and a time for questions and answers. Carve out some time on August the 8th and make plans to attend the Holy Sexuality conference.
FUNERAL SERVICE for Jean Detweiler is this afternoon at 5 p.m. here at Leidy’s Church. The family will begin receiving friends and neighbors at 3 pm. Jean was a beloved longtime member of Leidy’s Church.

Join them in the Fellowship Hall for Sunday School.
