THE SERMON: “True Circumcision”
* CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
[First used Feb. 19, 1986]
C: Gracious God, we confess our sin to You. We have sought to bribe You by means of our works, somehow thinking they were so good, that they could make us acceptable to You. At the same time, we have undervalued eternal life which You offer to us as a gift. Forgive our arrogance and thanklessness, O God, for we come in the name of Jesus Christ. It is through Him alone that we have eternal life. Thank You for Your graciousness to us, may we walk in the humility that Your mercy and grace effects, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

* THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM
Question 46: How do you understand the words, “He ascended into heaven”?
Answer: That Christ was taken up from earth into heaven before the eyes of His disciples, and remains there on our behalf, until He comes again to judge the living and the dead.
Question 52: What comfort does the return of Christ “to judge the living and the dead” give you?
Answer: That in all affliction and persecution I may await with head held high, the very Judge from heaven who has already submitted Himself to the judgment of God for me, and has removed all the curse from me; that He will cast all His enemies, which are also mine, into everlasting condemnation, but He shall take me, together with all His elect, to Himself into heavenly joy and glory.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is True Circumcision. God is doing a new thing. That means it is a hard thing for those who have been around for awhile. The NT is a record of that new thing God is doing. Paul’s life is spent laboring to see that new thing accomplished. Though not without numerous hiccups along the way, the apostolic church confirms this new thing God is doing. Peter speaks up at the meeting of the apostles and elders in Jerusalem to remind them he had a hand in this new thing. James, the brother of Jesus, also speaks and confirms it. What is this new thing? It is the true circumcision.

PRAYER CARD SUNDAY is coming up soon. If you would like to provide a picture of your child you may do so, otherwise a picture will be taken by Sherise. Pictures are due in to Sunday School teachers as soon as possible.
THE BUILDING PROJECT is bustling along quite nicely, thank you. The floor of the gymnasium is installed and the marking lines for the various sports will be painted in on Monday, the Lord willing. Chancel rails are in process of being installed, along with some final painting touches. The carpet in the sanctuary is now in place. If you think that means pews can’t be far away, you’re correct. On Monday – again, the Lord willing – the pews should arrive and begin to be placed. Yes, they are well-padded. In the narthex the coffered ceiling is completed and in process of being painted. The Nursery and Library have all the trim work done and should be painted this coming week. Refrigerators, freezers, convection oven, three bowl stainless steel sinks, dish washer, and other kitchen paraphernalia are in place, but not quite operational yet. Please keep your prayers and intercessions operational for this project. Ask the Lord to continue to protect, provide, and guide.
LOVE CRADLE MISSION BANQUET will be held on Saturday, March 12th. Doors open at 5:00 and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and will feature good Ukrainian food. There is no cost for the evening, but a free will offering will be received. If you would like to attend, please contact the church office or send an email to email@example.com.
GET ENGAGED! We’re looking for lots of young folk, plenty of not-as-young folk, and those in between for this summer’s trip to take the Gospel of Jesus the Son of God to the young folk at Pikangikum and Sandy Lake reserves in Ontario. It’s an opportunity to engage in gospel ministry as you engage with other team members to engage those communities with the love and truth of Jesus. Sign-up sheet is on the narthex wall. The dates for this year’s trip are July 7 – 17th.
EXCHANGE STUDENT needs a home away from home. The student in question is a tenth grade Korean boy who attends Lansdale Catholic high school. The exchange agency will set up the rides to and from school. The host family mostly provides room and board and a good environment. An $800 monthly stipend is extended to the host family. Accommodations should extend through the end of the school year. For more information, call Soo Hwang at 267-346-4537 or contact the church office.
HEIDELBERG CATECHISM NOTE: Last week we considered the five descending steps of Christ’s humiliation: His birth, His sufferings, His death, His burial, and His descent into hell. This week we focus on the four ascending steps of His exaltation: His resurrection, His ascension, His sitting at the Father’s right hand, and His return in glory. The Church believes that Jesus’ dead body was physically made alive and reunited with His soul in the resurrection. After 40 days Jesus physically ascended to heaven, as witnessed by 120 of His followers. His ascension was really a coronation and since then He has been at the right hand of God the Father, where He is our Advocate making intercession for us. Also, from there He sends forth the Holy Spirit to comfort, guide, teach, and empower us. The culminating step of His exaltation will take place when He returns as the King of kings and Lord of lords, causing all persons who have ever lived to appear before the Judgment Seat of God and receive their eternal judgments, either heaven or hell.
SCRIPTURE TEXTS FOR HC: While we only print the text of HC questions in the bulletin, from the date of its publication in January of 1563 the HC has provided Scripture citations for each answer. In case you’re interested in checking them out, we’ll list some of those texts for today’s questions.
Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9 for Christ’s ascension before His disciples
Heb. 9:24 for the Lord Jesus being in the presence of God for us.
Acts 1:11; 10:42 for Christ’s return to judge the living and dead
Luke 21:28; Phil. 3:20 for waiting expectantly for Christ’s return
Matt. 25:41-43 for the casting of enemies of Christ into hell
Matt. 25:34 for Christ’s invitation to His redeemed to enter the kingdom prepared for them since the foundation of the world.
BRING IT ON!! Because of the uncertainty of the date when the new church will be open, Ladies of Leidy’s has decided to have the May Rummage Sale in the existing building one more time. So, you may now bring any and all rummage sale items to the designated rummage room. Thanks for your cooperation while this was all up in the air.
THE STORMER LAKE MISSIONS TRIP is done in partnership with Living Hope Native Ministries. LHNM’s 2016 annual banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 1st (no fooling) at Yoder’s Restaurant in New Holland, PA. Join us for a night of good food and great stories about how God is working through the mission. Register for this freewill offering event at www.lhnm.org or by calling 855-367-8199.
