MORNING WORSHIP – 8:00 & 10:45
* THE OPENING HYMN: #336 O Worship the King
* THE CONFESSION OF SIN – first in silence & then in unison
    C: O Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ, who underwent shame and suffering for our sake; we confess most humbly that we have refused to bear the burden of Your cross, that we have denied You rather than face mockery, and that we have put comfort and security before our duty. Forgive us our sins, help us to change our ways, and give us the courage to endure all things for Your sake.  Amen
* THE KYRIE (sung)
          P: Lord, have mercy upon us.
         C: Lord, have mercy upon us.
         P: Christ, have mercy upon us.
         C: Christ, have mercy upon us.
         P: Lord, have mercy upon us.
         C: Lord, have mercy upon us.
         P: God shows His love for us…
         C: Amen
         P: Let us praise God!
         C: Praise the Lord!
*   THE GRATEFUL PRAISE: Amazing Grace
     Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
    That saved a wretch like me.
    I once was lost, but now am found;
    Was blind, but now I see.

     THE SERMON: “An Environment for Growth”
     Question 26: What do you believe when you say: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth?
     Answer: That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth with all that is in them, who also upholds and governs them by His eternal counsel and providence, is, for the sake of Christ His Son, my God and my Father. I trust in Him so completely, that I have no doubt that He will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul. Moreover, whatever evil He sends upon me in this troubled life, He will turn to my good, for He is able to do it, being almighty God, and is determined to do it, being a faithful Father
     Question 27: What do you understand by the providence of God?
     Answer: The almighty and ever-present power of God, whereby He still upholds, as it were by His own hand, heaven and earth together with all creatures, and rules in such a way that leaves and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and unfruitful years, food and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, and everything else, come to us not by chance, but by His fatherly hand.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is An Environment for Growth. The Church belongs to Jesus. He instituted it and ordained that there be elders to govern it. His desire is that we grow together as one body and continue in the faith. Our mission has a simple focus: to preach the gospel, and make disciples. But we live in a world of suffering, and a world of hostility toward the good news of Jesus Christ. We will be persecuted, and we will have trouble, but our sovereign God is totally in control of all things and will ensure that His Church grows and advances no matter how hostile her enemies.
LEARNING FROM THE NINEVITES will happen Wednesday evening at our Ash Wednesday service of worship. It begins at 7:30 and will last about an hour. Despite what some may think, there is a great joy to be experienced in the act of repentance. The season of Lent, a traditional time of repentance, begins with Ash Wednesday. We’ll find that the USA could learn much from the folk of Nineveh.

A NEW ADULT SS ELECTIVE begins this morning. Titled The Kings: Founders, Reformers, and Scoundrels, it will be taught by Chris Tawney. The class will consider several of the kings of ancient Judah and Israel, some of whom proved to be “good bad examples.” The class will look at the human heart, leadership models, foreshadowing of Christ, and issues the class chooses to bring up. Chris invites you to join him for this month-long study.
HEIDELBERG CATECHISM NOTE:  Without the doctrine of creation there can be no legitimate Christian Church. At the heart of the biblical revelation is that God made everything out of – careful now – nothing! There was no pre-existing atom or atoms with which He began. God never stops caring for and ordering all facets of His creation. That’s called God’s providence, which He exercises sovereignly. One thinks of Ps. 103:19 “The Lord has established His throne in the heavens; His sovereignty rules over all.” Both good and ill come from the hand of God. The categories covered in Question 27 are comprehensive – down to leaves and grass, as well as bulging and thin wallets! All come from the hand of God. But that is not enough for the Christian. We know all these things come from His Fatherly hand, and that hand is almighty and ever-present.

BRING IT ON!! Because of the uncertainty of the date when the new church will be open, Ladies of Leidy’s has decided to have the May Rummage Sale in the existing building one more time. So, you may now bring any and all rummage sale items to the designated rummage room. Thanks for your cooperation while this was all up in the air.
THE BUILDING PROJECT focused major attention on the chancel area this past week. Thus, the platform for the baptistry was built and is now in place. Likewise, the wall in front of the baptistry is being built up as is the wall at the very rear of the chancel area. Previously, the circular stairs were installed at the rear of that area; this week the radius wall enclosing the stairs was finished. Just about all the main doors to and from the facility are trimmed out now. In the narthex, the crown molding was carefully nailed into place. Carpet put-er-downers were busy at work this week. They made substantial progress in the Sunday School wing. Likewise, the administrative area has most of the carpeting in place. One room is completely done: the Conference Room.
MORE NAMES ARE NEEDED to add to the list of drivers who can provide occasional transportation for Brian Lafty during the day to his local doctor appointments. A HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE is being formed to help us be more intentionally hospitable as we move across the street. If you have an interest in being part of this committee please contact the church office. We’re taking down names!
