     THE SERMON: “Gospel Turbulence”
*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
[Adapted from John Calvin’s Forms of Prayer for the Church]
C: O Lord, You are our Father, we are nothing but earth and clay. You are our Creator, we are the workmanship of Your hands. You are our Redeemer, we are the people redeemed by You. Your wrath is kindled against us because of the sins we have committed, but remember we are called by Your name, and we bear Your banner. Be not so angry with us, therefore, as to chastise us in Your fury. In Your mercy chasten us leniently. Preserve, we ask, the work which Your grace has begun in us, that the whole world may acknowledge You to be our God and Savior. We abandon all other hope, and flee to the precious covenant by which our Lord Jesus Christ, through His own body and blood, has reconciled us to You. Look, therefore, not on us, but on the face of Christ. May Your face shine upon us, as You guide and govern us by Your Word and Spirit. Amen.
* ASSURANCE OF PARDON: #210 I Cannot Tell
Question 19: Whence do you know this [i.e. that Jesus is our Mediator and Redeemer]
Answer: From the holy gospel, which God Himself revealed in the beginning in the Garden of Eden, afterward proclaimed through the holy patriarchs and prophets, and foreshadowed through the sacrifices and other rites of the Old Covenant, and finally fulfilled through His own well-beloved Son.
Question 20: Will all men, then, be saved through Christ as they became lost through Adam?
Answer: No. Only those who by true faith are incorporated into Him, and accept all His benefits.
Question 21: What is true faith?
Answer: It is not only a certain knowledge by which I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in His Word, but also a wholehearted trust which the Holy Spirit creates in me through the gospel, that not only to others, but to me also, God has given the forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness, and salvation, out of sheer grace, solely for the sake of Christ’s saving work.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Stan and Joan Radcliff February 3rd.
THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Gospel Turbulence. We tend to forget that one of the regular features of Paul’s apostolic ministry is his being run out of town on the threat of death. At Lystra his opponents think they have killed him. On the other hand, Paul and Barnabas are objects of adulation. It is only with difficulty that they are able to restrain the crowds from offering sacrifices to them, as though they were gods! Meteorological turbulence happens when weather fronts collide. When the gospel of Jesus Christ is introduced it results in spiritual, intellectual, and moral turbulence – whether in Paul’s day or in ours.
THE TRANSITION COMMITTEE is looking for people who would be able to assist with the moving of items to our new facility when the time comes. An email or text list will be maintained to send details to everyone who is interested. If you are willing to help and wish to be notified on either list, please contact Francis Weiss via email (FLweiss@bergeys.com) or text (484-368-2951).

THE BUILDING PROJECT is trimming up, not trimming down! That is to say, there is lots and lots of trim work being done. Wainscoting in the sanctuary and the narthex continues with all possible haste. The Penn Builder crews are now working on Saturdays also – unless providentially hindered by blizzards! The kitchen hood controls are now calibrated and in working order. Several days this week no trim work was done on the outside of the building. It was flat-out too cold! On the main level, the doors have been hung and are smoothly swinging on gleaming hinges. All the exterior glass has been in place for some time, but this past week interior glass was installed for the sanctuary and the administration area and half of the library. Linoleum tile was laid in several rooms and some of the rubber baseboard as well. Please pray for all our committees working hard at aspects of the project we need to address. You can pray for the Finishings Committee, the Furnishings Committee, the Dedication Committee, the Construction Committee, the Transition Committee, the Funding Committee, and the entire congregation who is part of the Praying Committee!
HEIDELBERG CATECHISM NOTE: When did the gospel begin to be proclaimed? That’s the subject of today’s first question. The answer is: in the Garden of Eden! God’s plan of redemption has not changed one iota from the beginning. It only becomes clearer and clearer as time goes on. All the Old Testament points to Christ. But just as there were faithful believers as well as unfaithful folk back then, so throughout all of history. The key to a life of godliness is true faith. That is something that no one is born with. Rather it must be created in the human heart by the work of the Holy Spirit. True faith engages the entire person, and it always makes our hearts and minds bend Godward.
SCRIPTURE TEXTS FOR HC: While we only print the text of HC questions in the bulletin, from the date of its publication in January of 1563 the HC has provided Scripture citations for each answer. In case you’re interested in checking them out, we’ll list some of those texts for today’s question.

NEED A BABY BOTTLE so you can participate in the Change for Life fund raising project to benefit the Pregnancy Resource Clinic? Extra bottles are available in the church office. Also, bottles may be found at strategic places in the church. The bottles will be collected Feb. 15th. Just drop your coin change in the bottle day-by-day and then bring to the office when filled, or on the 15th of Feb. Thanks for helping!
A NEW ADULT SS ELECTIVE will take place during the month of February. Titled The Kings: Founders, Reformers, and Scoundrels, it will be taught by Chris Tawney. The class will consider several of the kings of ancient Judah and Israel, some of whom proved to be “good bad examples.” The class will look at the human heart, leadership models, foreshadowing of Christ, and issues the class chooses to bring up. Chris invites you to join him for this month-long study.
THE RUMMAGE ROOM has recently been organized by our faithful volunteers. Since we’ve heard that some donors can’t hold onto their Rummage items until we move to our new facility, you are welcome to drop off your items. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Mary Beth Musselman.
THE FOOTE FAMILY would like to thank the congregation for their cards and prayers during this difficult time of Jim’s dad’s and grandmother passing. Please continue to pray for Jim’s mom, Martha, as she buried her husband of 53 years and her 103 year old mother on the same day. We rejoice in the hope we have in Jesus that we will see them again in glory, and pray for peace and comfort as we grieve and mourn.
MONDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY begins at 6:45. We have begun the 8 week study Knowing Christ: The I AM Sayings of Jesus by Dr. R.C. Sproul.  The world is in the middle of an identity crisis—that is, it doesn’t know the real identity of Jesus. But rather than asking everyone else, the best way to know who Jesus really is, is to find out what He says about Himself. Starting with “The Bread of Life,” Dr. Sproul explores what Jesus says by looking at the I AM statements He makes in the Gospel of John. Material will be provided.HIGH RETREAT happens February 12th-14th at His Thousand Hills in Wellsboro, PA. Cost is $60. Sign-up on the youth board ASAP, a spot can’t be guaranteed after February 7th. Contact Pastor Andrew if you have any questions.

THANK YOU FROM BONNIE ST. ONGE: “I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and concern from the body of Christ here at Leidy’s Church. The cards, phone calls, love gifts, and visits keep me thanking the Lord for all of you and your kindness.”
LADIES OF LEIDY’S continues to collect sewing and knitting supplies for Love Cradle in the box provided in the narthex coat closet. These supplies will be sent to Ukraine to help with ministry. If you have questions, please speak with Alice Kraus.
THERE WILL BE A WORSHIP COMMITTEE meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 1st, in Room 13. Please try to attend as we gear up for the new building across the street.
