THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Tests! Teachers and professors use tests to measure students’ learning. What student looks forward to test day – none! Usually, test days are preceded by many painful hours of preparation, times when we know we’re going to fail! So, we endure all night cramming sessions seeking to fill our brains with the data needed to do well on the test. If, in the end, one earns a good grade, then it seems as though the stress and strain was worth it all. In 1 John the apostle lays out certain tests to prove if one has fellowship with God. Those are the tests we need to pass.
ISSUES & ANSWERS SCHEDULE:

     July 23             Steve Radcliff

LEIDY’S YOUTH FOR JULY! Today is here at the church from 3-5:30 p.m., then on July 23rd we kick off the pool parties at Jerry and BJ Kulp’s house, and finally finishing out July at the Rau’s. It’s going to be an awesome rest of July with a few surprises (even when we’re at the church). See you this afternoon!
YOUNG ADULT COOKOUT! The smell of burgers, the sizzle of hotdogs, and the blistering heat of July are all things to look forward to as Leidy’s Church young adults gather to enjoy community, food, games, and a time of studying God’s Word together. Where is this event? Pastor Steve’s house on Saturday, July 29th from 3-6 pm. Who is this gathering for? It’s for those young men and women who are facing the unique challenges of being in college or just entering the workforce (essentially 18-25). If you’re interested or have more questions text/call/snap Pastor Chris Tawney at 267-885-8289.
A RED CROSS Blood Drive takes place on Friday, July 28th. If you would like to get on the schedule to give blood, you will need to go to the Red Cross site at www.redcrossblood.org and in the “Find a Blood Drive” box type in leidyschurch. Click on the link and you’ll be able to see what times are still available. Or, you may register before or after church on Sundays at the table in the narthex.
TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY of VBS at the Pikangikum Reserve in Ontario. The SLMT team will appreciate our daily prayers for their ministry labors among the First Nation people. Pray for Francis Weiss and Brian Radcliff as they do much-needed maintenance work. Tony Kapusta, who heads up the team, and Mary Beth Musselman [VBS] and Lorraine Kroesser [Food], who have significant leadership responsibilities, will appreciate and benefit from our prayers. All the team members were listed in last week’s bulletin and also are listed in the July/August Newsletter. Of course, as you pray for them, pray for the entire Pikangikum community as well.
FROM THE MICHALAK FAMILY: When Michael was sick and in the hospital, the love poured out, flowers, meals, cards, concerns, and especially the prayers. God had a plan and Michael is now in glory, praise God! Love to you all
THE CONSISTORY CALLED a person to serve as the Pastor to Youth and Children – and he has accepted. His name is Michael Nowling (pronounced “now-ling”). His wife’s name is Sara and they have a two year old daughter, Naomi. His start date is August 1, 2017. The Nowling family will be introduced to the congregation during worship on July 30th. This year’s meeting will be Monday, July 24th at 5:45 pm in the Frobese Conference Center Classrooms 1 and 2.  Please pray for the pro-life speakers as they prepare and for the Lord’s work in the hearts and minds of the board members. You are welcome to attend the meeting. For more information you may contact Jill at 215-429-3750.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING is scheduled for August 6th immediately following the service. The purpose of the meeting is to elect deacons to serve on Consistory for the 2018-2020 term. Those being nominated to serve are Ed Schmidt, John DiLenge, Jim Kinney, and Tim Leidy.
ATTENTION 18-45 YEAR OLDS! Sign up for the Brown Bag Luncheon for you and your children. If you need to store your lunch, you may use the refrigerators in the kitchen. CALLING ALL FAMILIES who missed having their photo taken for the new church directory! Due to vacations, illness, work commitments, etc., whatever it might have been that did not allow you to have your photo taken, here is your chance. If you’re still interested in being included in the new directory, please call the church office with your name and best way you can be contacted. Once we have gathered a list of families a member of the Care Committee will work with you in scheduling with one of the local churches that are also having directory photos done.
