THE SERMON: “The Work of the Holy Spirit”
*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
C: Gracious God, you have made us alive in Christ, released us from our sins by His blood, and caused us to be born again through the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful salvation! Yet, O Lord, we confess we walk too much in our own strength, seeking to complete with the flesh, what the Spirit began. To do so is foolish, it is ineffective, and it is sinful. O Lord Jesus, forgive us! Help us learn how to live and walk in the Spirit. We want to be Yours. Put Your Law within us, write it on our hearts, and let us rest in Your care for us. With Your people throughout history, we say, Hallelujah! What a Savior! Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is The Work of the Holy Spirit. The sine qua non – that without which it cannot be – of the Christian life is the personal work of the Holy Spirit. No matter how moral someone may be, no matter how spiritual someone may be, no matter how religiously devout someone may be, without the creative work of the Holy Spirit in one’s soul, one cannot be a Christian. When Paul returns to Ephesus he meets a group of twelve men who are exceedingly devout, but it turns out they’re not Christians. What Jeremiah prophesied, what John the Baptist pointed to, had to happen to them. It did.

CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE is always a pertinent topic. The Spiritual Council has a Statement on Christian marriage that details how Leidy’s Church understands Christian marriage. That Statement will be reviewed and thought through in today’s Issues and Answers class. Copies of the statement will be available. In these tumultuous times, this Statement provides good teaching on a basic subject. Come to the Fellowship Hall during Sunday School to participate.
MISSION COMMITTEE MEMBERS have cards to sign! We’re not meeting this month, but cards still need to go out. Please stop by the church office this week and add your John Hancock to each card. Thanks.
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER MEETING has been called for by the Spiritual Council. It will take place on Wednesday, June 22nd, beginning at 7 pm. The focus of the prayer meeting will be the completion of the building project. The following day (June 23rd) is when the L&I board meets in Harrisburg. Among their agenda items will be requests from us. That will be one prayer item, but not the only one by any means. You’re invited to join in this evening of prayer.
LOST SHEEP prayer group meets the second Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, and the second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Cindy Filson.
THE SUMMER SPECIAL MUSIC schedule is posted in the narthex. Each participant is required to meet with a member of the audio-visual team the week before they sing. You will be given the name of the AV person who is on duty for that week so that you can contact him. We hope you will share your God-given talents with us this summer.
