Acts 28:23-31 (page 118)
THE SERMON: “Blind Seers”
* CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
[Adapted from John Calvin’s Forms of Prayer for the Church]
C: O Lord, You are our Father, we are nothing but earth and clay. You are our Creator, we are the workmanship of Your hands. You are our Redeemer, we are the people redeemed by You. Our sins kindle Your wrath, but remember we are called by Your name, and bear Your banner. Do not chastise us in Your fury, but in Your mercy chasten us leniently. Preserve, we ask, the work which Your grace has begun in us, that the whole world may acknowledge You to be our God and Savior. We abandon all other hope, and flee to the precious covenant by which our Lord Jesus Christ, through His own body and blood, has reconciled us to You. Look, therefore, not on us, but on the face of Christ. May Your face shine upon us, as You guide and govern us by Your Word and Spirit. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Blind Seers. To speak of “blind seers” is an oxymoron, it is a contradictory joining of words. “Seers” is a term designating folk who can “see” with great clarity, especially with regard to moral and spiritual matters. They can “see” what you need to do and tell you what you need to know. Hence a “seer” is a “see-er.” The Jews were meant to be seers; they were the ones entrusted with the oracles of God. Yet, the consistent charge against them by Jesus and the prophets is that though they say they can see, as a matter of fact they are blind. A blind man proves such is the case.
WE WELCOME DAVID AND SONYA DEFAZIO to Leidy’s Church. The DeFazio family is on the mission field under the banner of World Team. Their assignment is to the Philippines where they are engaged in church planting. After about a year and half in that country, they have become more and more fluent in the spoken tongue of the land. We look forward to hearing how the Lord is using and guiding the DeFazios in gospel ministry in that land.
