     THE SERMON: “A Set Up”
*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
C: Heavenly Father, You are the omnipotent Ruler of the universe. You have made all things, and You order all things. Nothing is hidden from Your eyes; nothing is exempt from Your power. But we see the wicked prevailing. Your name is misused. Your people are abused. Our hearts faint. Doubts assail us. Fears overwhelm us. We forget You. Father, forgive us our fearful forgetting. Take away our desperate doubting. Redeem us from wicked grip of unbelief. Lord Jesus, we look to You. Wash away our sins. Send the Holy Spirit afresh into our hearts, that we may cry “Abba, Father.” O God, we are blessed to be Your redeemed children. We rest in Your care. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is A Set Up. Despite the happenstance appearance of so many of life’s details, the scriptures are clear that God is working His good will in the midst of it all. Our texts for today attest that such is the case. Though Esther does not know it, she is walking into a situation which God has orchestrated so that she can bring deliverance to His people. King Herod, on the other hand, thinks he has all things under control. He doesn’t. Instead, the content of his character is set to be tested. When Peter enters the home of Cornelius, it becomes apparent that it is a set up. God is good at set ups.

IT’S APPLESAUCE MAKING TIME! If you can assist with the making of the applesauce for the church, it happens on Saturday, October 24th at 9 a.m. Contact the church office if you can help. Thank you.
WE DO GIVE THANKS for our three wonderful pastors! Even though our pastors will be ‘on the run’ to their respective Sunday School classes, we hope they will be able to grab a few tasty treats that have been provided by the Care Committee. Please join them and fellow members for light breakfast bites in the Fellowship Hall during the Sunday school hour this morning. Also, if you haven’t had a chance to express your thanks during the month of October, please feel free to drop off a note or card in their baskets while you enjoy the breakfast items.
NEW THIS YEAR: security escorts are invited to walk through the drama during tonight’s practice at 7:30 p.m. Report to the Fellowship Hall.
A SIGN-UP SHEET for the month of October to provide meals for the Lafty family is on the wall in the narthex. This family continues to need our support for the time being. They live at 46 E. Grandview Avenue in Sellersville. If you cannot deliver the meal, bring it to the church.
A CELEBRATION BANQUET for the entire congregation is being planned for Saturday evening, November 7th. Sponsored by the Consistory with major help from the Care Committee, it will be an evening to return thanks to God for all the ways He’s worked in and through the “new addition” we added in 1990. Looking forward to good food, good memories, good sharing, and good celebration of God’s goodness. Plan to be present. Please fill out the form in the bulletin and place in the box provided on the narthex desk.
IF YOU’RE NOT CRAFTY but still would like to help with the Craft Show and Sale on Saturday, November 21st, Wendy Radcliff is looking for a partner to work with her in concessions or take over if necessary. Contact Wendy directly by email (radcliff6@verizon.net) or let one of the ladies in the church office know of your interest. Our annual craft show has served great food over the years, so this is an important part of the day to our guests and vendors.
INQUIRERS CLASS BEGINS on November 1st. This is a class for those interested in becoming members of Leidy’s Church. It will meet each week during November in the Conference Room during the Sunday School hour. If you or someone you know would like to be part of this class please contact the church office or Pastor Niederhaus.
FAMILIES OF CHILDREN Kindergarten through 6th grade (whether you normally participate in Kids Klub or not), are invited to attend a Fun Family Event on Wednesday, October 21st from 5-7. Activities planned for the whole family. This is a family event. Each child(ren) is to be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or older family member. Dinner will be provided.
WANT TO HELP WITH Judgement House without acting? Consider donating food for the cast! There is a sign-up sheet on the wall in the narthex for you to tear off a slip to bring the items we need. Please bring the donated items to the kitchen by October 18th and mark it “JH”. Thank you.
STILL NEEDED FOR JUDGEMENT HOUSE: adults to wait with those wanting to skip Judgment and Hell scenes; youth grades 7-12 for non-speaking roles; security escorts. Contact Pastor Andrew, Rachel Tyson, or the church office to volunteer.
HAVE YOU MADE A RESERVATION to tour Judgement House? It begins this Friday between the hours of 6 to 9 p.m. Making an advance reservation for a tour will eliminate long waits in the crowd of walk ins. The tour takes approximately an hour. Call or email the church office to secure a spot.
A GREAT BIG “Thank you!” to all who helped make this week’s Rummage Sale a success. We made a little over $5,200, and more is still coming in. We will not be accepting any donations until we are moved into our new building. We will have a brand new room to fill with all the great items we receive for our twice yearly sale.
THE BUILDING PROJECT had lots of folk hanging around gaping and taking pictures this past Monday. On that morning the steeple was raised and put in place under the watchful gaze of curious onlookers – and it was accomplished without incident. PTL. The lightning rod and cabling comes right down the inside of the steeple. By Friday all the work had been done to make the steeple and all connected with it watertight. The sanctuary ceiling is being framed with plywood so that dry wall can be installed soon. Much of the painting in the Fellowship Hall was completed during this week. The application of stone facing on the exterior of the sanctuary progressed rapidly this past week and should be completed soon. We have begun drawing on the IDA loan so those monies can be charged to qualified “public” areas. That also means our monthly interest payment is going up.
CHICKEN DINNER ORDER FORM may be found in your church mailbox. You’re welcome to use it fully! The date for this year’s Three Fat Guys chicken repast is Saturday, the 14th of November. A representative will be in the narthex to take your orders. Yes, you may pre-pay to make your drive-up take-out experience all the more smooth.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD shoe boxes are available on a table in the narthex. This Christmas project is sponsored by the Mission Committee. Pick up a box, fill it with gifts from the suggested gift list, and apply the sticker indicating if it is for a boy or a girl. Gift lists for appropriate ages are available on the table with the boxes. The boxes need to be returned by mid-November. More details will be found in the November Newsletter.
LADIES, IF YOU WERE THINKING of attending the Discern – Answers for Women Conference in Kentucky April 15-16, the super early bird discount rate is still available. Ticket price includes lunch Saturday and 2-day Creation Museum admission. Travel, lodging, and food costs to be determined. Sign up by October 29th on the bulletin board or by contacting Sandy Nase or the church office.
MEN’S BIBLE STUDY will not be meeting for the next two weeks. They will resume on Thursday, November 5th.
THE ZION CHORAL SOCIETY concert is being held today at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Bechtelsville this afternoon at 3:00.
