     THE SERMON: “Foreshadowing”
*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
         [first used Feb. 26, 1986]
C: Almighty and most merciful God, we bow in humble contrition, and confess our sin to You. We have been lead astray by the enticements of the world, the deceits of the devil, and the weakness of our own flesh. We know and confess, that we have fallen far short, of what You require of humanity. Consequently, we take refuge in the blood of Jesus, for it does cleanse us from sin, and ask for His resurrection power, to be imparted to us afresh each day, so that we might live to Your glory. Amen
*   ASSURANCE OF PARDON: #304  Crown Him with Many Crowns
Question 19: From where do you know about the Mediator between God and man?
Answer: From the holy gospel, which God Himself revealed in the beginning in the Garden of Eden, afterward proclaimed through the holy patriarchs and prophets, and foreshadowed through the sacrifices and other rites of the Old Covenant, and finally fulfilled through His own well-beloved Son.
Question 20: Will all men, then, be saved through Christ as they became lost through Adam?
Answer: No. Only those who, by true faith, are incorporated into Him, and accept all His benefits.
Question 21:  What is true faith?
Answer: It is not only a sure knowledge by which I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in His Word, but also a wholehearted trust, which the Holy Spirit creates in me through the gospel, that not only to others, but to me also, God has given the forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness, and salvation, out of sheer grace, solely for the sake of Christ’s saving work.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Foreshadowing. It’s good to know that we’re God’s workmanship and that He has prepared works for us to do – ahead of time! Paul had a number of profound experiences with the risen Lord Jesus. There is one in today’s text from Acts. The Lord speaks to Paul audibly, foreshadowing what lies ahead. The accusers of Paul also experience foreshadowing. There’s a big difference, however, for their foreshadowing comes through the words they say rather than through what God has said. The Bible is full of foreshadowing, for all things work according to God’s plan.
WE WELCOME Jim and Linda Maiorano to Leidy’s Church this morning. HEIDELBERG CATECHISM NOTE:  When did the gospel begin to be proclaimed? That’s the subject of today’s first question. The answer is: in the Garden of Eden! God’s plan of redemption has not changed one iota from the beginning. It only becomes clearer and clearer as time goes on. All the Old Testament points to Christ. But just as there were faithful believers as well as unfaithful folk back then, so throughout all of history. The key to a life of godliness is true faith. That is something that no one is born with. Rather it must be created in the human heart by the work of the Holy Spirit. True faith engages the entire person, and it always makes our hearts and minds bend Godward.
SCRIPTURE TEXTS FOR HC: While we only print the text of HC questions in the bulletin, from the date of its publication in January of 1563 the HC has provided Scripture citations for each answer. In case you’re interested in checking them out, we’ll list some of those texts for today’s questions.
