*   CONFESSION OF SIN: (first in silence then in unison)
[Adapted from John Calvin’s Forms of Prayer for the Church]
C: O Lord, You are our Father, we are nothing but earth and  clay. You are our Creator, we are the workmanship of Your hands. You are our Redeemer, we are the people redeemed by You. Our sins kindle Your wrath, but remember we are called by Your name, and bear Your banner. Do not chastise us in Your fury, but in Your mercy chasten us leniently. Preserve, we ask, the work which Your grace has begun in us, that the whole world may acknowledge You to be our God and Savior. We abandon all other hope, and flee to the precious covenant by which our Lord Jesus Christ, through His own body and blood, has reconciled us to You. Look, therefore, not on us, but on the face of Christ. May Your face shine upon us, as You guide and govern us by Your Word and Spirit. Amen.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Knowing for Certain. Claudius Lysias, the head of the Roman troops in Jerusalem, could not figure out why in the world the Jews were so upset with Paul. He wants to know for certain what the deal is. He assembles the Jewish authorities, men who knew for certain what they knew, and anticipates getting some certain answers – finally! Instead, he gets a near-riot. What happened? The folk he brought together knew for certain what they knew (we’ll meet them in our Gospel texts), but could not agree on what they didn’t know, except knowing for certain the others were wrong!

10,000 Reasons

The sun comes up it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes
Chorus:
Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul
Worship His holy name,
Sing like never before O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find
And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Glory to God Forever

Before the world was made
Before You spoke it to be
You were the King of kings
Yeah You were yeah You were
And now You’re reigning still
Enthroned above all things
Angels and saints cry out
We join them as we sing
Chorus:
Glory to God, glory to God
Glory to God forever (2x)
Creator God You gave me breath
So I could praise ,Your great and matchless name
All my days all my days
So let my whole life be a blazing offering
A life that shouts and sings the greatness of our King
Take my life and let it be
All for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours
Take my life and let it be
All for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours
We sing

Behold Our God

Who has held the oceans in His hands
Who has numbered every grain of sand
Kings and nations tremble at His voice
All creation rises to rejoice
Chorus:
Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him
Who has given counsel to the Lord
Who can question any of His words
Who can teach the One who knows all things
Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds
Who has felt the nails upon His hand
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal humbled to the grave
Jesus Savior risen now to reign
Men: You will reign forever
Women: Let Your glory fill the earth
