THE SERMON TITLE this morning is The Power of God. Easter is impossible. It cannot be true. Dead men – not just “mostly dead,” but entirely dead men – do not come back to life. Everyone knows this. Some folk have their dead bodies frozen so when we figure out how to bring someone back from death to life, it can be done to them. The message of Easter is that Jesus was completely dead, He was buried, sealed in a tomb. The End. But on the third day His body came back to life. Impossible! Except for the power of God. That is the same power that opened Lydia’s heart to believe. May God’s power roam freely among us!
PANCAKE & SAUSAGE BREAKFAST is being offered by our Youth Fellowship this morning. Serving hours are from 7 to 10:30. There is no charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Be generous and enjoy your breakfast!
THIS MORNING, THE CHOIR will be singing the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ (at both services!). Any member of the congregation that has sung the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ in the past is welcome to join us. Copies of the music will be available.
AUCTION DONATION FORMS for the Leidy’s Church Stormer Lake Auction set for Saturday, April 30th are on the narthex desk. Please pray how you can support this worthy endeavor. Call the church office if you have any questions about the auction or ideas you might have about donation items.
THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER offerings will be collected today. This year the 30 Pieces of Silver offering is going to Church Without Walls. With many local contacts throughout the middle-east, Church Without Walls will use our funds to bring much needed assistance and aid to Christians living under severe physical and spiritual duress. Please remember to pray for them.
THE BUILDING PROJECT was alive with the sound of music this past week. The organ is installed! Technicians from the Walker Technical Company are in the process of “voicing” the organ, that is, adjusting all its many features to fit the acoustical contours of our facility in the best possible ways. The owner of the company also has been present and working to get all the installation fine points harmonized and maximized. Certainly the organ is pleasing to the ear, but its appearance is also pleasing to the eye. It fits right in with all the sanctuary furnishings. Other crews continue to work also. The baptistry has only the flooring for its steps remaining to be done. Final painting is being done in the sacristy and other areas off the chancel area. Almost all the carpeting is installed in Fellowship Hall. Stairwell one has the handrails in place – a more complicated process than most would anticipate. Also, lots of folk in our midst are doing yeoman’s work in preparing for our move across the street. Let’s pray for them all!
LAST CALL for SLMT volunteers. The sign-up period ends this Thursday evening. At this point we do not have sufficient numbers of volunteers to undertake the mission. If you’ve been delaying putting your name on the dotted line, you need to step up and sign up now. We need young and old, skilled and unskilled, SLMT veterans and SLMT newbies. We’ll be doing VBS work, community activities, and some construction/home repair work. Yes, you would be welcome to join us in this mission endeavor. The dates are July 7-17.
PASTORS MASTERS GOLF OUTING is coming up on Monday, April 18th. Leidy’s Church hopes to have a number of golfers involved. Held at the Talamore Country Club, it will benefit the ongoing ministry of Love Cradle International. More information is available on the narthex desk. Let the office know if you’d like to be part of a Leidy’s Church foursome. It’s a great day out, topped off by dinner, prizes, and awards.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING is scheduled for Sunday, April 24th during the Sunday School hour. The purpose of the meeting is to vote on the proposal from Consistory to add a new full-time pastoral staff position of Pastor for Worship and Technology.
ELDERS WILL PRESENT information regarding the Spiritual Council. This will take place next Sunday morning in the Issues & Answers Class. An inaugural session that will lead to a monthly consideration of Statements issued by the Spiritual Council, it will be led by Steve Landis, Ron Moyer, and Jeff Schatz. For fuller details, please read the article in the April Newsletter.
THE ANNUAL RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE takes place on Wednesday, April 13th from 2 to 7 p.m. There are several ways to make an appointment for you to give blood. The quickest and easiest way is to go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter leidyschurch in the Find A Blood Drive box. There you will be able to see what times are available. Or, you may call the church office at 215-723-8707 to schedule a time.
THE MONDAY LADIES BIBLE STUDY at 6:45 p.m. in Room 16 continues working through The Embrace Series from Answers in Genesis. This week’s session is Abortion, Finding Hope and Healing presented by Camille Cates. Recent statistics show 37% of professing Christian women have had at least one abortion. That is more than 1 out of 3 women sitting in the pews on Sunday. Camille believes the reason for lack of willingness to help is not because the church is calloused or indifferent, but because Christian women are unprepared to share compassionate answers with those who are hurting. Her message will inspire you to bring the grace of the gospel of Jesus to any hurting mother or family member of an aborted child. Any interested are invited to join us.
REMINDER: There is a training session scheduled for Saturday, April 2nd beginning at 9 a.m. at the new church for those who are involved in leading music during worship services. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
